A play tells about the worldview of the Yukagir peopple through a couple’s love
The first Yukagir opera “Yuko and Aneke” will be presented on the stage of the Opera and Ballet Theater in the republic capital on December 18 and 20, Yakutia 24 TV channel reports.
The opera is based on Nikolai Kurilov’s poem “Black Cloudberry”. The work tells about the worldview and philosophy of the Yukagir people through the love story of two young people.
“For us, this is primarily a creative experiment. Because, inviting the film director to opera genre is a certain innovation for Yakutsk and for the opera and ballet theater,” said the theater director Sergey Yungans.
Composer Nikolai Mikheev and director Kostas Marsaan began work on the opera in 2016. According to the creators, the play may become one of the theater’s brand touring performances.
