Yakutsk student proposed a bill on construction of vacuum storm sewers based on Alaska experience
The republic will implement the project in 2020
Yakutia 24 TV channel: A four-year student of the Law Faculty of the North-Eastern Federal University Nikita Fedotov became the winner of the Republic contest “People’s Lawmaker” with a bill to build a vacuum storm sewer in the republic capital.
The bill is planned to be implemented in 2020. The project shall solve mudding of city streets, large lakes’ pollution with various impurities, garbage and organic substances.
The student tells that he turned to the experience of Alaska (USA), also located on permafrost. He cites the example of the city of Deering, located 800 kilometers northwest of Anchorage. Insulated foam pipes there are set right above permafrost. They set glycol heating into the foam, which prevents the pipes from freezing in the winter months, when the temperature can drop to -50 degrees.
According to the student, Yakutia meets special difficulties in arranging the sewage system: not every such can withstand permafrost conditions.
“The drainage of storm water in the republic is carried out using artificial structures in the form of reinforced concrete trays. A significant part of the existing trays are in awful condition due to inadequate funding of their maintenance,” says the project author.
