Yakutia 24 TV channel with the reference to RIA Novosti: The cashier at VTB Bank in Yakutia, who stole 15 million rubles from the deposit, was given a suspended sentence. The decision was made by the Supreme Court of the republic.
According to the Supreme Court, the bank representative appealed the verdict of the Yakutsk city court from August 15, 2019, that criminated the cashier for embezzlement on an especially large scale to five years of suspended sentence in prison with a probation period of four years.
“Using her official position, the cashier developed “a way to steal money from the bank’s vault and stole 15 million rubles from June 14, 2014 to May 23, 2018,” the court press release says.
The defendant said that she had spent the stolen money for personal needs, including for her daughter’s wedding, her husband’s birthday and personal needs: expensive clothes, perfumes, rest.
“So, she stole 1,5 million rubles for the daughter’s wedding, she spent at least three thousand rubles were on food every day, and for her husband’s birthday she stole 300 thousand rubles. The convict fully admitted her guilt. Given the mitigating circumstances, including a disability group, the absence of aggravating circumstances, the court considered it possible to assign the defendant a sentence not related to real deprivation of liberty. The court satisfied the civil lawsuit of the victim in the amount of 14,875 million rubles,” the press service explained.
The bank’s lawyer did not agree with the verdict of the city court and asked in its appeal to exclude the suspended sentence and to appoint a ban on holding a position related to working with money as an additional punishment. The press service of the court noted that the court did not see any reason for imposing real imprisonment and decided to leave the verdict of the trial court unchanged. The court decision entered into force.
