Yakutia 24 TV channel: Specialists recorded vapor at the site of the eliminated underground mines near Sangar village, Kobyaysky ulus.
Valentina Pereyaslova, the chief specialist of the civil defense and emergency situations of the Kobyaysky district, notes that the first underground fire was recorded in 1998; the same year the mine was eliminated and all entrances and exits were closed. Since 2000, the site has been under monitor. The exit points of underground fires are surrounded by barbed wire, with the warning signs set.
“Yesterday there was a survey, where the workers from the district and township administration, the Kobiai Environmental Inspection Inspectorate took part. During the survey, the surface of the land cover melted, vapor escaped from the cracks, ice formed, they felt a burning smell and there were dry trees around,” says Valentina Pereyaslova.
According to the chief specialist in civil defense and emergency situations, the situation is under constant control of the district administration and the Ministry of Ecology of the region.
