Roe deer mortality in Yakutia due to lack of forage
Yakutia 24 TV channel: Roe deer mortality in the republic is due to long consumption of agricultural forage by animals, since they have not enough food in natural habitat.
Roe deer eat prepared hay since they cannot find natural forage under thick layer of snow that fell in autumn. They had to eat prepared agricultural forage, the long consumption of which leads to violation of digestion and leads to mortality.
The republic ecology ministry subdivisions organized extra nutrition of roe deer by hay, woody forage and salt nutrition on the hunting areas.
Spring 2018 saw mass mortality of roe deer in the central regions. The reason was long cold in winter period that led to roe deer starvation, then mortality.
Herewith, their number reached the maximum for last 15 years. In 2019, their number was 36 thousand, in 2018 – 26 thousand.
