Over 1800 forest fires registered in Yakutia in 2019
The Fire Safety Commission will strengthen preparations for season 2020
The Commission for the Prevention and Liquidation of Emergencies and Ensuring Fire Safety of the Republic summed up the results of work for 2019, Yakutia 24 TV channel reports with the reference to the Regional Head’s Government.
The fire hazard season in Yakutia lasted from May 15 to September 20, 2019, during which 1865 forest fires were registered in the republic on a total area of 3,999 million hectares.
A forest fire situation of particular complexity accured in the northeastern part of the region: 549 fires were recorded in Verkhoyansk district, 155 in Zhigansky, 53 in Momsky, and 60 in Srednekolymsky. The main causes of fires were dry thunderstorms and careless handling of fire.
The extinguishing involved 6,523 people and 474 pieces of equipment, four Russian MES aircrafts and 179 people from the federal reserve of the Federal Aviation Protection Agency.
Deputy Chairman of Yakutia Government – Deputy Chairman of the Commission Denis Belozerov drew attention of meeting to the fact that the meteorologists forecasted the summer 2020 as unfavorable, so it is necessary to strengthen preparations for the fire season.
