Khangalassky district of Yakutia began to breed sables
300 sables of the Saltykovskaya-1 breed have been brought from the Irkutsk region to Pokrovskaya fur farm in the Khangalas district of the republic for the organization of cell sable breeding. The farm used to be specialized in silver-black foxes breeding, Yakutia 24 TV channel reports.
At the moment, the fur farm constructs sheds for sables, each consisting of a walk and a house.
“When we were in Irkutsk, it was about -25-28 degrees. Our conditions here are more severe, but the sables are unpretentious,” said Maxim Vasilev, director of the fur farm.
As experienced breeders say, the first offspring is expected in three years. Females maturing requires two years of these.
The Republic Ministry of Agriculture provided financial assistance in acquiring sables for animal husbandry.
“Sable husbandry must become profitable. Its quality will be greater with the Yakut cold weather,” said Prokopiy Nikolaev, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the region.
This is the largest import of sable to Yakutia territory lately. Earlier in 2019, 30 animals were brought as an experiment to an animal farm in Iengra village of Nerungri district.
2020 plans the delivery of sable puppies’ additional batch.
