First Far East Cameroonian goats been born in Yakutsk
Yakutia 24 TV channel: Two Cameroonian goats have been born at Zooland mini-zoo in the capital of the republic. Little goats are the first ones in the Far East. Natalya Povedskaya, responsible for the breeding business at the zoo, said that twins were born on January 29. Also, replenishment from the second goat is expected.
“This breed is a dwarf one. Its height is 25 to 40 centimeters. Goats after lambing give one to two liters of milk with a fat content of 8 to 16%. Pregnancy last five months. They are very hardy in health, eat little, perfectly trained. We will choose names for goats together with our citizens,” said Natalya Povedskaya.
Zoo employees learned about this breed in 2016 and stood in line for the purchase of one individual. According to Natalya Povedskaya, Cameroonian goat is a rare species, there are only a few such nurseries in Russia.
“In December 2017, our turn came up, and they sent us a goat named Apollo. It was very tiny, it flew to us in Yakutia. At first it lived at home for three months as an ordinary pet. Six months later, we bought two more goats Riddle and Mozayka of this breed, and in 1,5 years our girls were waiting for the children,” tells the zoo.
