‘Bear Islands’ nature reserve to appear in Yakutia
Yakutia 24 TV channel: Bear Islands archipelago in the Nizhnekolymsky district of the republic will receive the status of a state nature reserve.
The corresponding project was prepared by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia. The reserve is created in order to preserve the population of polar bear, Siberian Crane, small swan, pink gull, as well as other endangered species.
The reserve area will be 881,088 hectares and will include the water area of the East Siberian Sea. According to the project, Bear Islands will be managed by the Ministry of Natural Resources.
The reserve creation is provided for by the federal project “Preservation of biological diversity and the development of ecological tourism” of “Ecology” national project.
