Yakutia 24 TV channel with the reference to the ALROSA Press Service: A diamond weighing more than 230 carats was mined on the Udachnaya pipe of ALROSA in the Mirny region of the republic on October 19.
The stone weighing 232,4 carats has a yellowish tint and the shape of an octahedron. Its dimensions are 40x39x23 mm, it has natural and technogenic chips on the surface. This is the largest example of jewelry quality discovered by ALROSA in more than three years.
“Such large, gem-quality crystals are a rarity. Of course, they can be found in ALROSA deposits, we haven’t found them since 2016, when two diamonds of more than 200 carats were mined. This year, the Udachnaya pipe is giving us such a present for the second time – earlier in January, we found a large diamond weighing 191,46 carats there,” said ALROSA Deputy General Director Evgenyi Agureev.
According to the company, the Udachnaya pipe produced 2,385 million carats of diamonds for nine months of 2019.
