More than 28 million larvae of whitefish species were released in the Lena River basin in the republic in 2019, Yakutia 24 TV channel reports with the reference to the Regional Head’s Administration.
According to the Deputy Minister of Ecology, Nature Management and Forestry of the Republic Yakov Zarovnyaev, artificial replenishment of fish stocks is carried out under the state program “Ensuring environmental safety, rational nature management and development of forestry in Yakutia for 2018-2022”; these are also compensation measures, conducted by subsoil users.
Zarovnyaev told, that in 2019, the Chernyshevsky fish factory released 28,21 million whitefish larvae into the Lena River basin, including 8,5 million by the state assignment, 16,1 million at the request of subsoil users, 1,5 million at his own expense, 1,5 million under the ALROSA environmental protection program, and also sold 448 thousand larvae to the beginning fish farms.
“We think that creating our own breeding stock in such a short time is as an important historical event in this industry in 2019. The breeding stock consists of wild individuals of the Siberian sturgeon of the Lena population and 46,5 thousand young fish of the Vilyui River,” said Zarovnyaev.
It is noted that, despite the success of the Chernyshevsky hatchery, there are many problems – the lack of their own broodstock of valuable commercial fish species, the lack of scientific data on the receiving capacities of water bodies and the lack of capacity for growing fry.
“To solve these problems, the plant was modernized in the last three years, the premises were repaired, all windows were replaced, a modern energy-saving boiler was installed, the entire fleet of vehicles was updated, and the sturgeon workshop was put into operation. In 2019, we bought a cage line for growing up whitefish, muksun in the Vilyui open water,” the deputy minister said.
