Yakutia 24 TV channel: The fourth batch of forest bison from Canada has been delivered to the republic. In total, 30 animals have been imported.
According to the veterinarian, accompanying the animals, the buffalo have well tolerated a long flight. The bison will be taken from Yakutsk airport to Ust-Buotama nursery in special trailers. The delivery of the fourth batch of forest bison to Yakutia was possible thanks to the international agreement on the transfer of bison between the government of the republic and the Parks Agency of Canada.
The importation of bison into Yakutia was followed by an official permission for the import of animals from the Rosselkhoznadzor regional administration and a veterinary certificate, agreed by the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as a permission to fly from the Federal Air Transport Agency, all customs procedures were followed.
The forest buffalo was donated to Yakutia by the Canadian government from the Elk Island National Park. One month before sending to Yakutsk, the park employees caught the calves and placed them in a quarantine enclosure in compliance with veterinary requirements for 30 days. The animals were taken the necessary tests to identify possible diseases, received negative results, got prepared the appropriate veterinary certificate. In addition, when transporting the bison, all the necessary requirements were met: the crew and the veterinarian did not leave Edmonton Airport. All those who met were equipped with personal protective equipment. The veterinarian accompanying the animals after returning remains under the supervision of doctors for the period prescribed by the requirements.
From 2006 to 2019, a total of three batches of 30 goals were imported from Canada. To date, the number of forest bison in Yakutia is 250 individuals, taking into account the fourth batch.
