Yakuts prefer fur boots of local production rather than imported ones
Residents of the republic prefer high fur boots, made by the Yakut craftsmen and manufacturers than products from other cities of Russia and foreign countries. This is primarily due to the longevity of local boots, Yakutia 24 TV channel reports.
Today, several organizations in Yakutsk are engaged in the production of national winter shoes. Sakhabult and Sardaana products are in great demand.
High fur boots are presented in a wide assortment on Krestyansky market of Yakutsk. Here is a broad choice of female fur boots made of deer fur, decorated with bead patterns. Also men’s high boots made of elk and cowhide are on sale.
The Yakuts can order shoes made by their own design and size at folk craftsmen.
“Women’s high boots with beadwork cost 33-35 thousand rubles an average. Male – from 25 to 28 thousand,” said craftswoman Clavdia Makarova.
Alexander Popov, popularly known as Laachaan, also produces original high fur boots. He has been making shoes for over 30 years, together with his wife. In the winter period, they make up to 100 pairs of boots by order per month.
