Innokenty Grigorev expressed hope for the positive outcome
The Republic Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Innokenty Grigorev expressed hope that the Yakut athletes will have the opportunity to perform at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Today, December 10 will see a round table in defense of the athletes’ rights in connection with the WADA decision to dismiss Russia from the Olympics and world championships, Yakutia 24 TV channel reports with the reference to the Republic Sports Ministry.
“We were all struck by the news of Russia’s suspension from all major competitions for four years, including the Olympic Games and world championships. This is political genocide regarding the clean athletes who have devoted their whole lives to the sports. We remember how Sardaana Trofimov lost her opportunity to take part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, and how the WADA officers acted against fighter Viktor Lebedev, and how long Russia has been seeking justice in court proceedings,” he said.
He noted that the Russian side has 21 days to challenge this decision.
“We hope for a positive outcome, and our athletes Sardaana Trofimova, Vasily Egorov, Kristina Ustinova, Vladimir Balynets, Stepanida Artakhinova, Anastasia Diodorova and Alena Dmitrieva will have a chance to prove themselves and adequately perform at the upcoming Games in Tokyo as part of the Russian national team,” said the head of Yakutia Sports Ministry.
Innokenty Grigorev also called on the public and sports communities to join the popular action in support of Russian sports. To do this, publish your photo on the background of the Russian flag with the hashtags #россию_в_олимпиаду2020 #поддержи_россию_в_спорте».
Earlier, we reported that the head of the republic Aisen Nikolaev criticized the work methods of the World Anti-Doping Agency they applied to the Russian athletes in world tournaments.
