The Yakut pensioner became the world champion in powerlifting
Powerlifter from Yakutia has become the world champion yet again at the tournament in America
72-year-old Yakut Sergey Nikiforov has become the world champion in powerlifting again, Yakutia 24 TV channel reports.
A senior citizen has been involved in this sport for over 20 years. At the moment, he is among the top 3 strongest powerlifters in the world.
According to Sergei Nikiforov, his personal rival is Japanese athlete Imaizumi Haruki, who set the world record by lifting 135 kilograms. At the World Championships in Finland, the Yakut athlete tried to take this weight, but he failed, due to the technical reasons.
“I am the only one performing at the age of over 70. I competed with 50-60 year olds and left behind seven younger people of different weight categories. My initial weight was 130 kilograms, then I reduced it to 125, and this weight has been alright,” told the athlete.
