‘Pole of Cold’ extreme marathon takes place in Oimyakon
28 people took part at the marathon in 45 degrees below zero
Yakutia 24 TV channel: “Pole of Cold” extreme marathon, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Victory on WW2, passed in Oimyakon region of the republic.
28 people participated at it in 2020. Two people went off the track. The track is from Oimyakon region to Tomtor village. Marathon started at 9 a.m. and ended at 2 p.m.
The temperature at the start was 41 degrees below zero, at the finish it was 45 below zero.
“In addition to the full marathon, there were three tracks for amateurs – for 5,10 and 20 km. The full marathon was participated by 6 men and 4 women”, says the Historical Memory party project public council chairman Sargylana Neustroeva.
The sportsmen performed at three age categories: 18-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-60, 70 and older.
Every 10 km, there were tents with food for participants. The runners were also accompanied with the cars with jury and medical workers.
