Neryungri scientists won a grant to study Evenki place names in Yakutia
Yakutia 24 TV channel: The project of study of Evenki place names has been among the winners of the RF grants Foundation for Basic Research.
The authors of the winning project are Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of Philology Elena Merkel, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor Lyubov Yakovleva and philology students of the university.
“In 2020, within the grant for three years, we plan to start collecting toponymic material in the areas of resettlement of Evenks of Yakutia in the Oleneksky, Ust-Maysky, Bulunsky, Zhigansky districts, and we will also have to work with historical and archival documents, maps,” sat the project authors.
According to the authors, to date, there are no similar studies of Evenk place names in Eastern Siberia. Scientists note the importance of collecting, analyzing and systematizing Evenki data by toponymic since they may disappear or transform in time.
