Yakutia 24 TV channel: A large jewelry diamond mined at the Yubileinaya pipe deposit in the republic was named after Hero of the Soviet Union Grigory Kuznetsov.
Grigory Kuznetsov was born in 1911 in the village of Shevelevo, Sokolsky District, Ivanovo Region. Before the war, he was a worker at the Aldan gold mines. Drafted into the army in 1942. Member of the Battle of Stalingrad and Kursk, liberated Moldova, Poland, stormed Berlin. “On the night of March 3, 1944, Grigory Kuznetsov crossed the Ingulets River in Ukraine as part of an assault under enemy fire with improvised means and seized a bridgehead for crossing the main forces. The campaign on giving the names of outstanding Yakutians to 100 large diamonds mined by ALROSA on the territory of the republic started on the initiative of head of the region Aisen Nikolaev on April 27, 2019. In the Year of Patriotism, it was decided to assign the names of Yakutians – Heroes of the Soviet Union to diamonds.
