Yakutia 24 TV channel: Yakutsk saw International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27.
A memorable date was established in 2005 by the UN General Assembly. The date January 27 was chosen because it was on this day in 1945 that Soviet troops had liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp on the territory of modern Poland.
Lectures, dedicated to the memory of Holocaust victims, have been held in Yakutsk for the fifth time at the initiative of the Jewish culture society members. Each year, lecturers choose different topics, this year the focus of the discussion was the contribution of the Jewish people to the victory in World War II.
