Trial samples of dirigibles to solve transportation matters in Yakutia are to be presented in St. Petersburg
The Russian developer company created prototype samples of dirigibles for transporting people and goods in the republic. They will be presented at the IX international forum “The Arctic: Present and Future”, to be held in St. Petersburg on December 5-7, 2019, Yakutia 24 TV channel reports with the reference to TASS.
“Now we are developing this project, we call it “Dirigibles of Yakutia”. This is not only people transportation, but also cargo, the northern delivery. This is a domestic development. We already have trial samples,” said first vice-president of “St. Petersburg Polar Explorers Association” Platon Staroverov.
The project was reviewed and approved by the Association’s Center for Arctic Research and Projects.
“A dirigible is a tool that requires less expensive ground infrastructure compared to helicopters and airplanes. In terms of carrying capacity, it is superior to airplanes and helicopters. And since Arctic climatic conditions are severe, but the air usually free, the airship can easily take off from a practically not equipped area and land on the other of that kind,” said the association’s first vice president.
According to him, the project also received support at the regional government level: “Yakutia is a huge territory, they got interested in the project to solve problems of their scale. Yakutia government is discussing it”.
