‘Cold Conquerors’ project to attract attention to climate change
The project shall show Far North tourism and tell about climate change
The republic tourism ministry says the international science project will not just attract the society’s attention to the climate change issues, but will also show Russian Arctic tourism.
“The expedition participants will test themselves: learn how to survive at the extremely low temperatures, hunt, swim in an ice hole, do some tasks. It is a unique chance to test your will, strength, to know the real life in Far North. The expedition was supported by Yakutia Head”, says ministry head Irina Vysokikh.
Now the project participants go the test routes, but such trips will be annual in the future.
The expeditions started on January 12. During 10 days, the participants will measure extremely low temperature to find a point with the record indicators. They will use a special methodics elaborated by the Russian meteorology agency.
The participants are travel bloggers, a photographers, journalist and TV host, traumatologist. They are accompanied by experienced guides – the Evenki reindeer herders.
